Must remember for Qatar Airways' FA wannabe's

I've been reading blogs and following forums for me to have an idea about the must-to-know points and procedures on how to apply for a flight attendant position. Since one of my dream airline is Qatar Airways, this post would be about the tips I've learned from forums on how to apply as FA in Qatar Airways.

According to the Qatar Airways' website:
Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, flying to over 90 leisure and business destinations across six different continents.
Currently operating 3 flights per week from Cebu and double daily flights from Manila to its hub in Doha, Qatar Airways offers easy and convenient connections to over 90 destinations.
Whether you are looking for relaxing trip to Africa or a European experience to Paris, Qatar Airways offers seamless connections to all corners of the globe; while Doha itself offers year-round sunshine and a wealth of world-class hotels for those looking to break up their journey.
Ranked Five Star for service and excellence by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency also places Qatar Airways among the world’s top three carriers. At the 2010 Skytrax World Airline Awards, Qatar Airways was awarded World’s Best Business Class, Best Airline in the Middle East for the fifth consecutive year, World’s Best Business Class Catering, and the Staff Service Excellence Award for the Middle East. The awards are compiled from results of the annual Skytrax passenger survey in which almost 18 million travellers were polled over a 10-month period.
On ground, Qatar Airways' unique Premium Terminal in Doha provides dedicated facilities for First and Business Class passengers in an atmosphere similar to a luxury hotel than an airport. As a premium passenger you will enjoy separate dining areas, exclusive duty free shopping, a dedicated business centre plus a spa, jacuzzi, sauna and massage service in First Class
They conduct an Open Day for resume submission and physical screening yearly through their local agency partner, IPAMS. Pre-screening is usually done at the Manila Diamond Hotel. The pre-screening requirements according to IPAMS' website are:
  1. Minimum age of 23 years
  2. At least 5'2 in height, minimum arm reach of 212 cms on tiptoe
  3. At least 2nd year College level
  4. Fluency in written and spoken English
  5. Good set of teeth. Candidates with braces/retainers will not be considered throughout the screening process.
  6. 1 passport-sized photograph in business attire (Sky blue background)
  7. 1 full-body 4R-sized photograph in business attire (Sky blue background taken by a professional photographer)
  8. Updated resume
  9. Business attire is required: Corporate coat over blouse & knee-level skirt, hair tied up and in full make-up.
But here's what I've read from Pinoy Exchange's FA forum:

  • Tie your hair neatly in a bun. (I'm planning to do this though someone told me that when applying for Cebu Pacific, this isn't advisable. Hair there should only be in ponytail)
  • Wear skin-toned stockings (I wasn't aware that skin-tone stockings are alright during ODs until I read this :))
  • SMILE!
  • Wear a tailored blouse, blazer and skirt.
  • Appropriate makeup - red lipstick! (I really want the SATIN DEL RIO lipstick I've tried from MAC, it's the only red lipstick I've tried that complements my morena skin really well.)

I got this from one of my friends from PEX, CMW_gal (also a CAS student, you can get good makeup tips from her too!). She also told me that the best passport and full body picture (in blue background as required by Qatar) can be achieved by Great Image Photo Studio. They have branches in SM Supermalls, Robinsons Malls & Festival Supermall. The thing is, you have to pay P1,250 for the package. Expensive right? I haven't tried Great Image's services yet, but I will surely share it if ever I will (if you've tried them already, kindly share your photos here!). You can find Great Image branches in here.

I also have an issue with scars and uneven skin tone especially on my elbows and knees (though calamansi really helped lighten my elbows and knees). Aside from that, I really need to lighten the skin above my elbows since their the most exposed part of my arms.

This is what I've read from SKYlakwatsera of PEX which can tone out the leg and arm color:

"Try applying leg make up. The best product I've tried is Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg Makeup, matte-finish at mukang smooth talaga yung legs, it has different shades u can choose from but a bit pricey - P1000.

According to thebeautyunkee, there's also an airbrush stocking worth around P600 and another leg makeup from MAC at P900. But since Ever Bilena's Pro Leg Makeup is the most affordable, I'll be trying that one first. Here's a review of Ever Bilena's Pro Leg Makeup. :)
