Braces' Progress: 4th Adjustment

Just a recap, I had my brackets three months ago and I've had four adjustments ever since. I'm having my dental braces adjusted every three weeks to hasten the waiting time.

I tried understanding how each accessory work by researching and reading articles online. So, thru the net, I've learned the 101. Below we see what I have inside my mouth; the bracket, arch wire, band and elastic.

Basically, here's what I've gone through:

> Placement of brackets and thin arch wires
> Adjustment 1 - change of O-rings or the elastics (you cannot choose the color to be fair to all patients I guess) I had pink that time. :)
> Adjustment 2 - change elastics (green) and wire from a thinner to a thicker one and placement of four molar band rings (ouch!)
> Adjustment 3 - change of elastics; had orange that time.
> Adjustment 4 which happened yesterday - changed to a much thicker arch wire and new elastics, dark violet this time. Pressure on my teeth is stronger than before. Will be on soft diet again for a few days (hopefully)!

Progress so far of my teeth can be seen on the photo below.

However, these shots are just frontal view of my teeth. What I noticed was my two front teeth went a bit forward. I think maybe its because they aligned themselves to my immovable and huge canine. Hopefully this time the thicker wire will help push my two cuspids backward.

BB Pieras Update

Me after office today with my new BB cream on.

I'm really starting to love this BB...

I tried using it at the office and my skin didn't darken or get oily at all even after 5pm! I also noticed that my face still had that fresh-in-the-morning glow in the afternoon. I have to know where my sis-in-law bought this!!!
I only needed the excess cream sticking at the mouth of the tube to cover my face and neck. No need to squeeze an extra. :)

The swatches above show how well it really blends on my dark skin. ;)

My MAC Holy Grail

These two are my staple Mac makeups. Select Moisturecover concealer in NW30 and Studio Fix powder in NC40.

I love this two simply because of their coverage. I was previously using studio fix concealer. I even emptied two pots in more than two years. So, the select moisture would be my third MAC concealer.

I changed from Studio Fix to Select Moisturecover concealer because my eyes were very creasy indicating how dry and aged it has become because of my previous concealer. Select moisturecover was recommended by a MAC consultant in Singapore and that's when I thought I really had to shift.

As I've mentioned, I love the coverage. It's subtle but you know there's makeup there.

On the photo above are the swatches. First photo on the left shows an unblended Select Moisturecover concealer while on the right, blended and topped with powder. Tried this together with my light-colored Bb cream and it was all a perfect match! :)

My Very First Own BB

Got a BB cream from my sister-in-law. She's a big BB cream fan and actually, I really am not. The reason is, I find it hard to search the perfect one for my skin tone. I'm naturally morena and my skin's medium warm to be exact.

So anyways, still tried her BB and amazingly it blended perfectly on my skin! :)

It looks kinda oily though but, overall, it made my skin look lighter and healthier. It gave my skin an illuminating glow. It also made it look flawless. I'm surprised how it blended well even when the BB is light in color.

Actually, I only applied a very small amount then just spread it evenly. Only used those sticking on the cover and t'was more than enough. Just applied some on my neck as well to make it more even.

Here's the cream! It's my first time to use this brand but it really made a good impression. I'm just happy with my very first BB!

Sunday Dresses

My kaartehan/ kakiyanan shows a lot on weekends since its the only time I can dress up and be girly. :)

Good thing about these outfits are all of them were from the overruns store. F21 clothes in more affordable prices! :)

Braces' Progress

I'm overall happy with the progress of my teeth over the past three months.

As I've mentioned before, I had my braces at Bonoan Dental Clinic.

I'm on my 3rd adjustment and my rubbers are now color orange. Will just take a picture before I have my fourth adjustment which will happen in 2 weeks time. I have my adjustment every three weeks.

As I remember, here's what they did since they affixed the brackets.

Adjustment 1 - change of O-rings or the elastics (you cannot choose the color to be fair to all patients I guess) I had pink that time. :)
Adjustment 2 - change elastics (green) and wire from a thinner to a thicker one and placement of four molar band rings (ouch!)
Adjustment 3 - change elastics; had orange this time

Here's a photo of the molar band as found on the net:

It doesn't hurt now compared to the first two weeks when I lost 5 lbs because I really couldn't eat anything solid. Now, everything's just normal. But I'm not sure if it would still be the same on my next adjustments. ;P

I'm just glad the crowding on my bottom and upper teeth improved a lot already.

First Real Hair Color

I just had my first hair color. Well, it's actually my second but the first one, which was last year was dark brown and was not really that noticeable.

My hair is really black. As in, jet black. And I was thinking, since black doesn't really flatter my skin much especially when I'm wearing black dresses/ clothes, why not change my hair color to something that will complement my skin tone?

So, considering this as my first real change of hair color, I tried researching on the best shade for medium warm skin tone. Some of the Hollywood celebs that appeared on my internet browser were Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba. I would consider Kim K.'s skin color to be nearest mine. So, I downloaded a few that I liked the most.

Unfortunately, my husband didn't approve the highlights. To him it looks untidy.

Because of that, I resolved in using a hair makeover app/website to see what hair color would suit me. I used www.esalon.com. The experience was fun because you get to input your hair and eye color as they assess your hair's current state. Just make sure to input honest answers for it to be able to showcase the best color for you. You will also state when's your last treatment and hair color and other important stuffs.

After answering, I was given selected shades that the app sees suitable for me, given all my answers. I had different options from dark brown to soft black. I've chosen copper golden.

I was hoping this color would look great on me. Though I didn't really dislike the outcome, I'm still trying to get myself used to it.

Here's the end result. Copper blonde/ copper golden on me looks red in yellow lighting and yellow/ blonde in white lighting. Like I said, still getting used to it! :)

Pearly Whites

Finally found my teeth whitening procedure photos on my mobile phone! It's funny that I took them more than a year ago but found time to blog about them only now.

As I said in my previous post, got this promo from Metrodeal for only P1,500. And I don't mind having them again after my braces were removed.

I had my teeth whitening procedure at Echano Dental Clinic last year. They have branches in Alabang and Ortigas.

Here are the photos. Please excuse my flat bulbous nose..

Yellowish teeth. Prepping for the procedure.

The blue coating is for protecting the gums

Laser after applying the whitening solution on my upper and lower front teeth

Left sample shows the original shade of my teeth

Post teeth whitening; night before OD
On the other note, teeth whitening causes sensitivity to your pearly whites during and 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. Especially when you expose your teeth to something too cold or hot and even to wind/ air. But the sensitivity will only lasts for 1-2 days.

Diet for two days would be anything that wouldn't stain a white shirt. So eat plain and not too stainy foods to make it last. This includes rice, vanilla ice cream, milk. Among the No-No's are green veggies, cheese, pumpkin, BBQ sauce, tomatoes, etc. Also, do not brush your teeth for a day. Gargle salt diluted in lukewarm water instead. Don't worry, it's just for a day. ;)

Aside from the sensitivity, I didn't experience any side effects caused by teeth whitening. Just a tip, if you're a coffee lover, drink water right after you drink to wash away the stain. And as much as possible avoid black/ dark or brewed tea and coffee. But if you cant' resist, brushing your teeth three times a day will sure help! :)

Note: Tips found in this article are based on my own opinion and experience. You may get professional advice from your dentist if you plan to undergo this procedure.

Indoor Makeup

Indoor makeup, especially inside a hotel, should be heavier than your ordinary day makeup. Here's what I wore during my CC applications. Please note that I do not wear this on my other applications as this is TOO heavy.

Face:
MAC Liquid Foundation in NC42
MAC Powder Foundation in NC40
MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW30
Lancome brown and beige palette E/S (For contour and highlight)

Lips:
Revlon In The Red matte lipstick
Ordinary lip gloss (Already removed on the photo)

Eyes:
Lancome brown and beige palette E/S
Nichido Black Eyeliner
Nichido Blackbrown Eyebrow Pencil
Maybelline Cat Eyes Mascara

Blush:
Clinique soft-pressed powder blusher

This is the same makeup I wore when I had this photo but with the lip gloss, of course. Sorry I wasn't able to put the exact shade of my blush and e/s since this happened a year ago. And labels and details at the back of my cosmetics are all, if not removed, unreadable now.

Jab and Straight

Attended a trial boxing class at Ringside Alabang. Don't hate my smile please..

My friend, the one who invited me, makes fun of how I swing and box because I move too girly. Honestly, I really felt like a boxer and I really tried my best to move more stiffly. Didn't know it made no difference. lol

Enjoyed the whole experience especially the boxing routine and ab workout even though I felt like a novice being side by side the hardcore students, my friend being one of them. The coaches were also considerate enough to not force me to comply when my body cannot do it.

So, the first of the whole routine was jumping rope. Every routine runs 3 minutes followed by a 60-second break. Just the jump rope alone made me feel exhausted. My legs we're wobbly and tired. I really have no exercise before that that's why I'm not surprised I felt that way. However, that was a good start for me.

Secondly, I had a jab and straight exercise with another coach. I did one jab-straight, two jabs-one straight, a four then six. All for a newbie. After this, I again had to bounce on a huge rubber tire like a pro boxer. I bounced with my two arm poised like that on the photo above.

Then comes the AB workout. We were lying on a mat but man, was it difficult. I felt the pain on different parts of my abdomen affected by every exercise.

Next comes the ring battle. It's just another one-on-one with the coach. This is where I told you I tried moving more stiffly but then your friend tells you you look cute - another term for funny.

And last is the jab exercise with a bouncing hanging small box bag. That's how I call it. Haha

Like I said, I really enjoyed this session! And I plan to enroll within the year.

When you go on a trial session like this, never say never. Never look at yourself in the mirror and don't look at others as well. It'll just make you conscious of your moves and theirs.

Brackets and Wires

I now understand why Betty La Fea (lead star of a famous Colombian telenovela which later on was revived by Philippine TV) laughs, speaks and acts that way. It's because of the braces.

I've been wanting to have my teeth braced years ago. I wished I had it when I was younger but I'm still glad I had it now. All for the name of beauty. As they say it, "tiis-ganda".

The braces will be there for two years and adjustments will be every month or every 3 weeks. My dentist is from Bonoan Dental Clinic (located in Alabang and Ortigas). The packages are P35,000 (Braces only), P40,000 (Braces with Retainers) and P45,000 (Braces, Retainers and Teeth Whitening). All packages include unlimited cleaning, light cure and simple extraction (as needed) every visit. I only paid P5,000 as DP plus payment for Xray.

What they wanted to correct are the following:

1. Minor Crowding
Crowding on my lower teeth started upon growth of my first wisdom tooth.

2. Alignment/ Bite
My front teeth are higher and not aligned to my molars.

In two weeks, I noticed that my lower teeth improved a little. Just a small movement on my crowded lower front teeth.

And so my "tiis-ganda" journey continues and will continue for two years.

The first week was really difficult since I couldn't eat anything hard at all. My diet was limited to ice cream, soups, arrozcaldo, champorado and the likes. After a week I tried eating beef pepper steak but still found it difficult and time consuming. So, thanks to my braces, I can lose the extra fats without effort. ;)

And at night I drool because it gets more painful as the wire moves/ straightens when exposed to more heat (heat increases when we sleep).

Excited to see my improved smile after two years! :)

Close Up Smile

I know it's vain but this is what got me my "You've got a close up smile" remark during my final interview with QR last year - Teeth Whitening! :) LOL

I'm a woman who loves to try out anything that could make me look good as long as it's within budget and it's convenient.

So, I got this teeth whitening promo at Metrodeal for only P1,500 and it originally costs around P20,000. Great deal, right? :)

Whitened Teeth without filter
Sorry, I don't have a before and after photo. But to help you, my teeth became more yellowish before because I drink coffee everyday and I eat lots of chocolates. ;)

I will do another blog on what happens during teeth whitening if I find the photos I took during the procedure last year.

Revived

Yay! Did my blog some pampering today. :)

I'm on leave until August so I did everything, (ok not everything but most of the things) I want to do but cannot do while I'm working and one of them is to blog!

Step by step, I was able to finalize my banner in just one day! Congratulations to me for my blog's first makeover since 2010.

I chose these images because this represents what this blog is all about. My dreams and aspirations. As for the color, I just love neutral and earth tones. Sad thing is I wasn't able to screenshot my old blog's layout for a before and after photo. Anyways, I'm overall happy with the final outcome. :)

My Anchor

These words encourage and comfort me... I posted these as a reminder to myself. :)

"You are all fair, my love, and there is no spot in you."
--Song of Solomon 4:7 (NKJV)

He has made everything beautiful in its time.
-- Ecclesiastes 3:11a (AMP)
...for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
-- Hebrews 13:5b (AMP)

"Be strong. Take courage. Don't be intimidated. Don't give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He's right there with you. He won't let you down; he won't leave you."
-- Deuteronomy 31:6 (MSG)

“ Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD."

-- Jeremiah 17:7 (NKJV)

"It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear not, neither become broken [in spirit--depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm]."
-- Deuteronomy 31:8 (AMP)

I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
-- Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG)

For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day.
-- Habakkuk 2:3 (AMP)

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
-- Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

And don't for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed. Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take."
-- Joshua 1:8-9 (MSG)

Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.
-- Philippians 4:8 (MSG)

Take Two

These are the second batch of photos I had for my FA application last year. We were requested to retake all our photos before the final interview. This may help you in your chances but never depend on this alone. Still have a few copies in case I reapply in the future :)

My Qatar Airways Cabin Crew Application

I had my last recruitment experience with Qatar Airways June of 2012. I only made it to the final interview but the whole experience is something I'll always look back to and feel proud of. I'm not a flight attendant yet but I admit I still dream to be. I just don't want to rush things and stress myself about it. It's something I cannot put away from my thoughts but I just cling onto this principle, "Jesus is my source of hope and joy and not the things I thought could bring those in this world." I'd like to settle myself there first and wait if I would really become an FA in the future or not.

Anyhoo, the whole experience with QR recruitment team was nerve wracking. My heart beat's pumping all the time and my mind couldn't stop racing until finally, I received their regret email. Of course, after that, I also felt sad and disappointed. So, imagine all the waves of emotions I've coursed through in three months time.

I'll just try to summarize my whole experience using numbers and bullets and I hope you won't mind. So, basically, I went through four selection processes in three days, Initial Screening (Open Day), English Test, Group Dynamics (Both happened during the Assessment Day) and lastly, Final Interview. I am still grateful I made it to the final interview because as every QR applicant would agree, each selection process wasn't easy.

Open Day: Initial Screening

The initial screening/ resume submission/ initial interview happened during the Open Day. Three or four recruiters from different sides of the world and cultures receive the resume, do the small talks while screening each applicant. Everyone's lined up from the registration and initial reach test up to the submission of their resume. Once it is your turn, the recruiter will look/ stare at you (as if scrutinizing) while talking. They'll ask one to more than two questions but the number of questions asked is not the basis of your acceptance. I've attended more than two ODs and the questions I got were mostly, "What's your current job?", "Why do you want to be a flight attendant?", "Is this your first time to apply?", or "Is this your number?". Based on my experience, when they ask if the number in the resume is your active number, you most likely get the call.

At Manila Hotel with hubby
Tips: Wear location-appropriate make up. I wear heavier makeup if the hotel lighting is gloomy. And also, sit and walk straight but not stiff. Smile and relax. It's okay to interact to steam off the tension but, do not be too loud.

Assessment Day

1. Orientation

This is a 45-minute to 1-hour orientation about Qatar Airways. What will be tackled are QR's mission and vision, management, flights, fleets, etc. In here, they will also discuss about the Cabin crew's salary and benefits. There's question and answer portion. It's nice to participate but honestly, I didn't. Because I didn't know the answers. :) Former and current cabin crews in the room actively participated that time. It may or may not affect your chance of getting to the next stage but since I passed the first half of the assessment day without raising my hand, you don't have to worry if you weren't able to participate.

2. English test

If you didn't get a chance to participate during the orientation, you still have this period to create a good impression. During the exam (this exam is easy but still needs right amount of attention), each candidate will be called one by one to do a secondary reach test. During the reach test, you will remove your shoes and blazer and will be asked if you have any birth marks, scars or moles. There are two spot lights in front of you while this is happening. I bet this is so they can look at your skin clearer. Then, after a 15-20 minute break, everyone starts praying for their numbers to be selected for the group dynamics [at the start of the day, a number is assigned to each candidate].

Tips: Stand and walk with your posture straight and graceful. Smile and move and speak with poise and right amount of confidence. And then again, SMILE. Try relaxing and enjoying the moment to make this natural. Makeup for hotel lighting/ indoors still appropriate.

3. Group Dynamics

Another selection process sets off. The remaining ones will be divided into 3 to 4 groups. Each group are independent of each other. It's not a group versus other group competition. Based on my observation, they are only after seeing how each candidate works in a group.

A question will be given to each batch of groups. After the first batch of groups are done with the exercise,  recruiters will call out the remaining groups to enter the room.

I did the group dynamics twice. At first, the challenge was to think of three persons to represent and uphold QR's mission and vision that would help promote a new Qatar Airways Hotel. Our team thought of a local beauty queen/ architect, Obama and another local icon (can't remember who). Anyway, we were given a limited time to talk and finalize our answer. After that, the two groups were asked to face each other and every member had a chance to talk. Unfortunately, on my first GD, I was caught talking to my team mates about our answer and was scolded. And I didn't make it to the final interview.

For my second GD, the recruiters asked us to create a chocolate brand that would be given away to customers. Create a logo, design the chocolate and its wrapper/ box and make a tag line. During this exercise, I waited patiently for my turn to talk. And while others were talking, I smiled, nodded and listened to their ideas. While listening, I'm also thinking of a BRILLIANT idea that would make our chocolate the best! When it's my turn, I talked to the group smiling, my voice not too high or too low but clear. After this, another selection was made. Numbers of those who made it to the final interview were called one by one. And surprisingly, my number was called.

Tips: Keep your poise while sitting. Be respectful yet smart when you talk. And smile while interacting.

Final Interview

The final interview was a day or two after the GD. It was scheduled at the Ipams office. My batch were asked to choose and agree on our final interview schedule. I chose the afternoon sched since I'll be coming from work.

We were asked to be there 30 minutes before our schedule. So I went there 45 minutes before my time. Since interview of other candidates were fast, I got called in earlier than expected. The interview took not more than 15 minutes for me. I don't know about other applicants but mine did. I put on the same amount of makeup I had during the OD and AD, not aware of what it would look like inside Ipams office. I had no idea then. Their office was still in Manila at that time. If I have known that their office has many windows, I would have put on lighter make up. Anyways, the next time I'll have the same opportunity, I'll make my makeup as natural as possible. :)

The questions were mostly about my filled out QR application form which the recruiters gave at the end of GD, right after selecting those who will undergo FI. They asked about my hair color, visible marks, tattoos, scars, current employment. And I think the most important question they asked me was this, "Was there an instance in your current job that you and your colleagues or boss had a misunderstanding? What happened? Why did it happen? And what did you learn at the end?" I won't tell you what I answered but to cut the story, after three months or less, I received a regret letter (It's still in my email as a memento, haha).

One of the photos I submitted during the Final Interview
What I also can't forget was, right before the interview ended, one of the recruiters remarked that I have a close up smile. :) a token before they send me their regret email, lol.

Tips: First, as a disclaimer, the tips I write here are my personal opinion and are based on what I have observed or experience. It may or may not apply to everyone. I guess what matters during the final interview is how you will show them that you are fit for the job. I'm not saying you should have the experience but your answers might affect how they will perceive you as someone who can be a cabin crew or not. Aside from that, still apply other factors you've learned during the first and second day.
